What's in a name?

Naming artwork isn't easy. It's like naming a child, only there are SO many! Making them meaningful and unique takes a thoughtful approach, one more thing about making art that can't be rushed.

For the release of these newest artworks, I wanted to call on my Scandinavian heritage and find new words to describe the essence of the pieces.

Solveig (pronounced SOHL-vay) is a Scandinavian word meaning "sun strength" or "strong house of the sun." It reflects the artwork’s radiant palette—deep forest green, petal pink, fig, coral, and chartreuse—and its quiet resilience. This is a piece for those drawn to contemporary nature-inspired art with energy and depth.

The name Linjär (pronounced LIN-yair) is a Swedish word meaning “linear,” honoring the visual architecture of the piece and its sense of natural order. This is nature distilled into abstract form—both contemporary and timeless.

Vindur (pronounced VIN-dur) is the Icelandic word for “wind,” chosen to reflect the sense of breath and natural movement in the work. This piece invites pause and presence—a contemporary botanical print with emotional depth and atmospheric clarity.

How do you make your art?

Original artwork is made with a variety of wet, dry and digital mediums, like paint, collage, vintage ephemera, petals and leaves from the garden, photography and pixels. Each piece is inspired by nature, my Scandinavian heritage and an insatiable, curious imagination.

Some prints are reproductions of original artwork (scan or photographs). Others are digital mixed-media creations using images and software to create original compositions. For instance, I may create a unique piece of painted paper or find a rare bit of vintage paper ephemera - scan or photograph it - then use software to ‘paint’ with it.

All artwork is 100% free of AI-generated content.
