circling the drain

Let’s not resist it any longer.

I want to go down the drain with you

where things are hairy and sticky and mysterious and stinky.

I want to grab your hand and show you how thrilling it is

to go winding down the twists and turns

sludge on your hands, breath stolen from your chest.

And when we come out the other side in some other unmapped place

I really want to turn to you, tenderly remove the toenail from your hair

and say, “Well done, my friend. That was a hell of a ride!”
